RUN 100

Running for the Hearts that Can't

I'm doing RUN100 for the hearts that can't.

11 years ago in February 2014, my brother Luis passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack at the age of 28. It's hard to believe it's been over 11 years since I have seen his smiling face and got a big brother hug. Words can't describe how much Luis is missed, by myself and so many others that had the opportunity to know him and love him. Grief is a wild rollercoaster and I don't think it ever gets easier missing someone that you love so much.

I decided in February of 2024 to take part in the RUN100 in order to raise money for the Irish Heart Foundation in Ireland. I was able to raise 786 euro last year and I ran/walked 103km as a tribute to my brother.

After feeling lucky to have participated last year and feeling extremely grateful for those that supported me and made donations, I have decided to take part again this year. This fundraiser is a tribute to Luis and the funds raised for the Irish Heart Foundation make such a difference to people that are affected by heart disease and stroke.

For those that wish to donate, please know that I would be forever grateful for your support.

My Updates

Days 22- 28 (FINAL 122.5k)

Monday 3rd Mar
Completed an additional 14km during the last week of February. I unfortunately came down with some sort of sickness during the week so I did not meet my goal of 161km (100 miles) although I did complete the challenge goal of 100km. Last year, I completed just over 100km and was able to increase the number of km completed this year. Although I am feeling slightly upset, I am feeling good to be active again and have consistently been attending fitness classes as well. I am also extremely proud to say that I raised 935 EURO for the Irish Heart Foundation! This is incredible and it makes me feel so blessed to have taken part in this challenge for the second year in a row. I am confident that next year I am going to surpass the number of km from this year. This one is for you brother!

Days 18- 21 (108.5km Completed)

Friday 21st Feb
I have officially completed 108.5km as of today! Feeling really proud to have finished 100km in just under 3 weeks. One more week to go and I am hoping to hit my goal of 161km (100 MILES) by the end of February. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. It means the world to me!

Days 13- 17 (84.75km Completed)

Tuesday 18th Feb
I've completed 29.25km in the last 5 days. On top of getting back into fitness classes, I have been feeling really good. This morning, a message popped up on my Apple watch that made me smile. It said, "On average, your walking heart rate was lower over the last 5 days." It is wild to see how much walking and staying active regularly can affect your heart health as well as your overall health. 84.75km down, I am determined to reach my goal of 100 miles/161km by the last day of February!

Days 8-12

Wednesday 12th Feb
A little late to post, but have completed 16km over the last few days. Had a really nice and relaxing weekend seeing friends and family, then back into it on Monday. I have sore legs from joining gym classes again, but continuing to walk each day! I have now completed a total of 55.5km!

Days 6-7

Friday 7th Feb
10.5km between yesterday and today. A walk with my friend and even getting back into Pilates classes again. Happy Friday! ❤️

Days 4-5

Wednesday 5th Feb
Walked 11km between today and yesterday. Slowly easing my way back into it this month but feels great to be active each day ❤️

Day 3

Monday 3rd Feb
7km total today between 2 nice walks. Slieve Aughty trails were really affected by the recent storm with loads of trees down, but that didn’t stop us! 👏

Day 1-2

Sunday 2nd Feb
Started off the first 2 days of the month with 2 nice walks with friends that were visiting for a night. Thanks Rachael & Michelle for walking with me and enjoying the sun in Galway. Feeling super grateful for good friends and good health! Thanks to everyone that has donated so far. Genuinely feeling so loved and supported 🥰
