Help Protect Hearts in Ireland

This summer my Mam was at home when she had a heart attack that caused her to go into cardiac arrest. The circumstances surrounding this mean that the chances of survival and recovery should have been extremely low. Following time in an induced coma and a long stay in hospital, she has defied all of the odds and made a full recovery and is a walking miracle. We are os lucky that she is still here, but so many families are not this lucky.

The Irish Heart Foundation provides amazing education on prevention, living with heart disease/stroke and supports for people impacted by heart disease and stroke and their families. Before my mam had a heart attack and a cardiac arrest, I knew virtually nothing about heart disease or stroke. I didn't know that a heart attack and a cardiac arrest aren't the same thing. I didn't know that symptoms of a heart attack are different for women than for men. I didn't know that women are 6 times more likely to die of heart disease than breast cancer.

I'm fundraising to raise awareness and in honour of the struggle with heart disease faced by my Mam this year and to support the fantastic work that the Irish Heart Foundation does for those affected.

Friday 19th Dec

Joined this evening by my lovely friends Aaron and Phil. We had such a lovely catch up and a proper laugh this evening. It was enough for me to forget to put my hat on properly! So glad for their company this evening.

Wednesday 17th Dec

Dip 9 out of the way this evening after wrapping up the end of my Christmas shopping. Not sure what I'm more excited about, finishing the shopping or the fact that the end of the cold plunges in sight! I'm so happy with how I've been finding these dips that I think I will do the Christmas Swim for the first time ever this year.

Tuesday 16th Dec

Bitterly cold today, it was almost as warm in the water as it was out of the water. I've feel that getting into cold water in this weather has taught me so much about self discipline that I never knew before. 3/4 of the way there!

I went out to D7 Sauna this evening for a dip into their plunge pool. Surprisingly it's actually colder than the sea!

I was joined in the sea today by my dear friend Gabby. Gabby is one of the kindest people I know with the most adventurous soul, which she proved today with her enthusiasm in getting into the sea in the wind and pouring rain. We had our amazing cheerleaders David, Danny and Fabienne supporting us today. So grateful for today.

Saturday 6th Dec

Temperature was much more tolerable today compared to earlier in the week, although the sea was so choppy. Shoutout to my lovely boyfriend John for his wonderful photography skills and for asking if he could have all my stuff if I got washed out to sea!

Tuesday 2nd Dec

Back in Salterstown Pier earlier this afternoon, and grateful it wasn't raining and windy like it was yesterday. The sea was much calmer too. My mam came with me and ventured down to the seafront to capture a photo of me floating around like a dead fly in a bowl of soup. 1/6 of the way there!

Monday 1st Dec

Finished dip number 1 this afternoon at Salterstown Pier in Annagassan. Very cold, only 9 degrees outside. I was joined by my brother Cormac today to get things started. Cormac is much braver than me and cannonballed into the sea!
