Support My Fundraiser for the Irish Heart Foundation
Hi, my name is Vadimas, and I’m 51 years old. I want to share my story with you and explain why I’ve decided to start this fundraiser for the Irish Heart Foundation.
In April 2020, my life changed completely. I suffered a stroke and was fully paralysed on one side of my body. I spent two weeks in the hospital, unable to walk or do any of the activities that used to be normal for me. The doctors told me I might never walk or run properly again. My wife had to take over everything, managing our home, finances, and looking after me. It was an incredibly tough time for both of us.
After leaving the hospital, I was determined to prove the doctors wrong. I pushed myself hard, sometimes too hard, to relearn how to walk and use my right hand. Even short walks near my house were a struggle. I could barely take a few steps without stopping. On top of that, I gained a lot of weight and had to undergo four heart surgeries. Doctors told me to lose weight, but despite trying various diets and medications, nothing seemed to work.
In my search for answers, I travelled to different countries to consult specialists, but every doctor had a different opinion or approach. It was overwhelming and discouraging. However, last year, I decided to try something different and take a more holistic approach to my health.
I enrolled in a holistic massage course and earned several certifications. I studied anatomy, changed my diet to focus on healing rather than just surviving, and incorporated meditation and gentle exercises into my daily routine. I also began working on flexibility and relaxation rather than overexerting myself. These changes have been life-changing.
Today, I feel incredible. My vision has improved, I can drive again, and I’ve even hiked Sugar Loaf Mountain! Something I never imagined I’d be able to do. I can now walk long distances and enjoy life in ways I thought were behind me.
I am currently pursuing an aromatherapy course to continue building on these skills and knowledge. My journey has been tough, but staying mentally strong and connecting with people who understood what I was going through made all the difference.
The Irish Heart Foundation played a huge role in my recovery. It’s a community that brings people together during their most difficult times, offering support, understanding, and hope. Their work is so important, and I want to give back.
This fundraiser is my way of saying thank you and supporting the amazing work they do. Please join me in helping them continue their mission to support others facing similar challenges. Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Together, we can make a real impact.
