Walking for the Hearts that Can't

I am taking part in 10,000 steps a Day in September to raise funds for the Irish Heart Foundation and I’d love your support to help protect hearts in Ireland. ❤️

The Irish Heart Foundation’s mission is to eliminate preventable death and disability from heart disease and stroke and to support and care for those living with these life-changing conditions.

Your donation will make a real difference to people and families affected by heart disease and stroke.

Why I am taking part🩷

Sunday 31st Aug
Hey! My name is Emma and I’m taking part in 10,000 steps a day to help raise awareness for Heart Disease. As a young type 1 diabetic women living in Ireland heart disease as an increased concern.
In February 2024 my older brother lost his best friend Oisin at the age of 20 to a heart condition. Heart conditions, diseases and issues are a major issue in Ireland, We lose about 9,000 people per year to heart disease in Ireland.
As a young women living in Ireland is a concern that 1 in 4 women in Ireland die as a result of a Cardiovascular disease or Strokes. My best friend has been struggling with heart issues for the past year which haven’t been taken seriously by medical professionals due to her being “too young” to have heart issues.  While we are very aware heart issues and diseases can come at any age.
As a young person with type 1 diabetes, heart disease is a major concern. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in people with type 1 diabetes. People diagnose with type 1 diabetes at a younger age face a greater chance of serious cardiovascular events later in life.
As people with type 1 diabetes have a significantly higher risk of heart issues and strokes compared to the general population. Such as major coronary artery disease in young adults with type 1 diabetes is nearly 10 times higher then in those without diabetes.
I hope to raise awareness for everyone who struggles with heart issues and diseases❤️
