Why I’m taking on the Irish Heart Foundation Run 100 Challenge
Monday 26th Jan
This year, I’ve decided to dust off the cobwebs and step a little outside my comfort zone and take on the Irish Heart Foundation’s Run 100 challenge, and I couldn’t be more excited about it.
At its heart (no pun intended), this challenge is about running or walking 100 kilometres over the month. It might sound straightforward, but being out of shape over the Christmas period has made this a challenge that requires consistency, effort and a bit of grit. And that’s exactly why I wanted to do it.
On a personal level, Run 100 is a chance for me to really focus on my own fitness and well being. Life gets busy, routines slip and it’s easy to put exercise off when the nights are dark and cold. This challenge gives me a clear goal to work towards and a reason to show up for myself regularly. Every run or walk is a small step towards better fitness, more energy and a healthier lifestyle.
But what truly makes Run 100 special is that it’s about so much more than personal goals.
The Irish heart foundation does incredible work supporting people living with heart disease, funding vital research and raising awareness about heart health across Ireland. Heart disease affects so many families, often quietly and unexpectedly and the impact can be life changing. By taking part in this challenge, its not just clocking up kilometres; it’s helping to raise funds that support prevention, care and education for people who need it most.
That’s what is going to motivate me on the tougher days. When the legs feel heavy or the weather isn’t exactly inviting, I’ll remind myself that every kilometre contributes to something bigger. Each step helps support people who are dealing with heart conditions, recovering cardiac events or learning how to protect their heart health for the future.
I love that Run 100 brings together personal wellbeing and community impact. It’s about improving your health while helping others do the same, a reminder that looking after ourselves and each other go hand in hand.
If you’d like to support my Run 100 journey, whether by donating, sharing the message or even taking on the challenge yourself, it would mean a huge amount. Together, we can turn kilometres into real support for people with heart disease, and that makes every step worth it.
Here’s to moving more, feeling stronger, and supporting healthier hearts all around ❤️🏃
