Walking for the Hearts that Can't

We’re taking on the 10,000 Steps a Day in September Challenge to raise vital funds for the Irish Heart Foundation—and we’d love your support. ❤️

Every step we take, every move we make... is for healthier hearts across Ireland. The Irish Heart Foundation’s mission is simple but powerful: to eliminate preventable death and disability from heart disease and stroke, and to support and care for those already affected.

Your donation—no matter the size—will make a real difference to people and families whose lives have been impacted by these conditions.

Thank you so much for visiting our page and for standing with us. Together, we can help protect more hearts in Ireland.

Smashed the 300,000 step pledge!

Not counting today, I have 392,331 steps and 290 Kilometres walked. It is not yet half the month and my target is met.

💓 Walking for Hearts – My 10,000 Step-a-Day Challenge 💓

Sunday 31st Aug

Tomorrow marks the start of my month-long 10,000 steps a day challenge for the Irish Heart Foundation. At 65, I’ve been preparing seriously for it—this past week alone I walked 51 km with my dogs, Harvey and Daisy Mae, to build up my pace and endurance.

For me, this isn’t just about numbers on a step counter. It’s about heart health, resilience, and showing that age is no barrier to taking on challenges that matter. I’ll be walking every day—rain or shine—with my four-legged companions keeping me company.

This challenge is for a cause close to my heart: raising awareness and support for heart health in Ireland. Every step counts—not just mine, but yours too. If you’d like to support, cheer me on, or even join in, it would mean a lot.

Here’s to strong hearts, steady steps, and proving that every journey forward starts with a single stride. 🚶‍♂️🐾❤️

A short warm up walk today with Daisy Mae

Tuesday 26th Aug
I went for a 1.9 kilometer walk  today to get Daisy warmed up for September.

Looking forward to the September 10,000 steps challenge.

Tuesday 26th Aug

As September begins, so does our challenge: 10,000 steps a day, every day, for 30 days.

On the surface, it’s just walking. Step after step, kilometre after kilometre. But each step carries weight, because it’s part of something bigger — a collective push to protect hearts across Ireland. ❤️

I’m looking forward to the rhythm of it, and breaking in my new walking shoes. The discipline of hitting that daily goal. The quiet moments outside, the miles adding up, the sense of movement with purpose. It’s more than a fitness challenge — it’s a reminder that small, steady actions can build into real change.

The Irish Heart Foundation’s mission is one worth walking for: to prevent heart disease and stroke, and to support those already living with their impact. Knowing that makes every step easier to take.

I’ll be sharing updates throughout the month — milestones, reflections, maybe even a few blisters. What I hope is that you’ll walk this journey with me in spirit, and, if you can, support the cause.

Because every step matters. And every contribution helps.

Here’s to September, and to stronger hearts for all.
